Green Monster Gone Wrong

Happy Monday!! It’s a new week!! I got to have a awesome workout this morning at Cardio Barre!! Still loving that class a lot. I knew on my way home that a green monster sounded amazing!!! Well lets just say the green monster in my head…was a lot better then the actual green monster that I made.

Lets rewind to last night though… After going to the market only two days ago…I was already out of fresh produce!! So dinner had to happen minus veggies. I try to always eat a veggie with every meal, but sometimes it doesn’t happen.

This was the seafood blend from Trader Joe’s, panfried with garlic gold and pepper. This is the easiest yummiest protein if you eat fish.

With not much else to eat with it, I put it over some brown rice, and covered it with cayenne pepper and parmesan! It was really good, but it definitely would have been tastier and more filling with some stir fried veggies.

Now lets talk about the green monster gone wrong! So I had this great idea to make a green monster based loosely off of the chocolate cherry bomb. Well let’s say my version was no where near as delicious as Kristen’s!

I started with Spinach

It sounds like everything is going great…well I add the cocoa powder, and since I didn’t have banana I added strawberries. I though it might be more of a chocolate cherry strawberry bomb!

I also added 1/2 cup greek yogurt for creaminess.

I usually make my green monsters with almond milk, but I decided to use water. That was a big mistake, I think I used too much and my smoothie was super watery!!

I drank it, but it was beyond watery and had only an essence of cherry and chocolate flavor. BOOOOOO bad breakfast!! I refused to not drink it because I used so many good things in it. But I have to say, I’m not very satisfied.

Today I’m off work so I will be running around doing some things, and going for a run/walk later!!

Raining Cats and Dogs

Hello lovely readers!! It’s sunday funday! Glad you liked my tips on lightening up cocktails! Here in LA it’s raining!! It’s been beautiful and sunny for the past few weeks, but now it’s raining. I’m looking at this nugget, who keeps barking at the rain!

This morning I took Foxy for a walk, until it started raining…so I headed home for Jillian Michaels 30 day shred! I am still doing level 1!

After Jillian it was time for breakfast!

Two Van’s Lite Waffles with Bee’s Knees and Dark Chocolate Dream peanut butter. With of coarse, sliced naner! (I know I’m classy with the paper towel!)

Last night I baked the carrot fries I got on my market trip. I have to say…I was underwhelmed.

I definitely wont be buying pre packaged carrot fries again…But they were good enough. I think I would be better off making my own and seasoning them as I see fit.

My 21st in Vegas!

It’s saturday!! Woohoo!! Hope you are all having a leisurely day. I am not…I work every saturday. (True story) This post was inspired by well..cocktails. I turned 21 this year, and have been going out a lot more. It’s been very important for me to find cocktails that aren’t full of sugar and calories. No matter what, cocktails are not healthy, but they sure are fun. This girl likes to break the rules!!

I won’t lie when I say I like to have a few drinks, and dance the night away with my friends. I like to keep my cocktails light so I don’t get heavier every time I go out. Let’s face it, alcohol is empty calories!!

So here I wanted to list my favorite lower calorie cocktails.

  • Vodka with Diet Tonic
  • Flavored Vodka with Diet Soda
    Green apple Vodka with diet coke (surprisingly tasty)
    Pineapple Vodka with diet sprite
    Vanilla Vodka with Diet coke
    -Passion Fruit vodka with Club soda
  • Vodka with soda and a splash of cranberry. (You can get this anywhere!)

As you can see I usually drink vodka because I like it the best! But I also enjoy white wine and champagne!

Told you Vodka is my favorite…

Other tips to lighten up cocktails:

  • Do NOT order anything that has to be blended
  • The fruity martini’s are full of sugar
  • Order club or diet soda for a mixer
  • If you are stumped, order wine!

Like most other things it’s important to have balance. So if one night you want to have a Pina Colada or a Margarita then go with it!! One every once and a while wont hurt you!

And more then anything…HAVE FUN!! And don’t turn into a sloppy drunk! That’s no fun for anyone!

Grocery Shopoholic

It’s the weekend!! Yay!! Hope you are all out having a fun weekend! I just got home from dance and I wanted to post about my shopping trip today. I hit up Trader Joe’s and Gelsons.

Let me tell you, I’m the worst grocery shopper ever!! I go with no list and no plan. I literally walk down every isle reading labels, and picking whatever calls out at me. So here is what called out to me at Trader Joe’s.

Kashi Berry Blossom, had to try it!! Perfect 10 bagels! These are the biggest fluffiest bagels for 140 calories! Frozen dark sweet cherries, and frozen mango.

Carrot Fries! (Trying these for the first time tonight!) Van’s light waffles. La Tortilla Factory tortillas. Laughing Cow light! I got two Queso con Fresco, one Garlic and Herb, and one Mozzarella and Sun Dried tomato!

There is also Dreyer’s non fat frozen yogurt, that I love to put toppings on for dessert!!

Well I have to go bake come carrot fries!! I’ll let you know how they go!

Lavash Lover

I have a new bread lover: LAVASH! I can’t believe I have never bought lavash before, what a waste the last twenty years of my life has been! (Just kidding!!!!!!) But on a serious note, if you don’t have lavash in your pantry, go get some now!!

After watching the Hungry Girl Tv show I knew I needed to try these lavash chips. For less then two hundred calories, you get a TON of chips. Let me tell you, I’m all about the volume of food and I could barely finish my serving!!

This was 1/4 of the amount of chips that came from two pieces of lavash. (I shared them with mi Madre) The dipping sauce on the side is salsa, greek yogurt, and Cholula!!

All I did was pre heat the oven to 400 degrees, slice the lavash into squares, spray with olive oil spray, add a little salt and pepper!! (I also snuck in some garlic powder!) Put it in the oven for about five minutes, and what came out was crispy and delicious!! It’s kind of like pita chips, but WAY better!!

Note: The best way to slice the Lavash is to fold it in half then cut it. The Lavash is HUGE!

I used whole wheat lavash, but I imagine you could use white lavash. Lavash is also vegan!

STEAZ! Got this at whole foods, bubbly and delicious!

Dinner tonight was beyond words. A seafood salad. I don’t know about you, but I love adding warm toppings to a crisp salad.

In the salad went: butter lettuce, seafood blend from Trader Joe’s, and Newman’s light balsamic vinaigrette.

For the seafood blend, all I did was pan fry it with a little olive oil. It came out perfect!! The mix of shrimp, calamari, and scallops is divine!

Well now I have to feed my reality TV addiction and watch Jersey Shore!!!

After that I’m heading to bed, waking up early to do a Tae Bo class with the mom!

Breakfast is my BFF

There’s something about breakfast that is so magical. This may sound crazy but I believe breakfast gives you the superpowers to get through the day! It’s by far my favorite meal. A lot of time I can’t fall asleep because I’m so excited for breakfast the next morning…Well this morning, breakfast was everything I hoped it would be and more!

I had a super sized Fiber One pancake. (it says makes three small pancakes…but I’m a rule breaker and made a big one!)

YUM! I sliced some banana and added some sugar free syrup.

If you thought that was all I had…you would be wrong. I wanted more protein so I also had to have a bowl of egg whites. On the egg whites I added Avocado Salsa Verde. (From Trader Joe’s)

This may have been the best combo of sweet and savory I have had in a long time.

The best thing about this breakfast was it was a LOT of food for around three hundred, to three-fifty calories!! It kept me full until lunch! If you have not tried the Fiber One pancakes they are worth trying. I personally LOVE them!!

After breakfast I went to the dentist for a teeth cleaning. (Not fun!) After I stopped at Whole Foods and picked up lunch. (Same tamales I had yesterday).

Well Now I’m at work sipping a Starbucks Passion Tea, and putting out clothes. See you for Dinner!

Dancing With Myself

Happy hump day!! Let me tell you today felt like the never ending day!! Let me take you from beginning to end.

Woke up at 7:30 to this little face

She licked me until I woke up, I fed her, then we went on a pre work walk/jog!

When I woke up this morning I was feeling extremely tired. I had slept for plenty of hours, but it was just one of those days.

I felt a little better after coffee and breakfast:

Two eggs over easy on a sandwich thin. (I also ate an orange)

After breakfast headed to work for the longest eight hours of my life. Today happened to be on the slow side, and with the internet not working, I was SOL. Let me tell you when you are in retail and it’s a slow day, it’s painful!! At least I had a few things to keep my spirits up.

So as I was halfway through the day, I lost all my energy. It wasn’t good. The best thing to do was dance along to the radio, alone in my store like a maniac. Let me tell you, you can see into the store from the street, so it’s possible I scared people passing by!! Luckily it helped wake me up and I was able to conquer the rest of the day.

I LOVE salmon! Just wanted to keep you informed and my dinner involved it.
