The New Hungry Dancer

Well hello there. Long time no see my friends. I think it’s only fair that I explain myself….

The truth of the matter is that when I started my blog I was beyond passionate about it and hopeful that I could reach people who struggled with the same things in life that I did, and still do. After a couple months of blogging, I started to really question if I should really be writing a “healthy living blog” I have no interest in waking up at 5 am to run 15 miles, I don’t eat oats that often (hehe), nor do I come up with tons of innovative recipes. What really makes me qualified to be writing a blog?? I guess there isn’t really an answer to that question. The only thing I can really tell you is that I am passionate about food, fitness, and fun. I think that reading so many other blogs about these people who run a marathon every month, or are doing triathlons kind of made me feel like a phony. I think this also led to my blog posts not really being, “Me.” I felt pressured to try and post new eats all the time, and if I didn’t work out one day I felt guilty, maybe didn’t post all the nights on the town…Well things are changing here at Hungry Dancer. I don’t want to give up blogging because I love it a lot. But I’m just gonna say screw it and write what I want, when I want. I’m 21, I love going out and having a good time with my friends, but I also like to eat as healthy as I can, dance my a$$ off, and maybe throw in some fun workout classes.

What to expect from the new Hungry Dancer

(Edit: It may appear I posted a picture of me on the toilet…but NO! I was just sitting on it with the lid CLOSED! HAHA)

– Consistent posts daily. (Mostly about whatever my little heart desires 🙂 )

– Me being, me.

– More about my crazy shenanigans

– Fun healthy versions of my favorite foods. (Pizza, wraps, pasta…etc)

Well now that I’ve talked your ear off, lets move on!! I am feeling more inspired then ever, and I hope you’re with me. Some things will stay the same: My yummy food, lots of pictures, and my grammatical errors (sorry I was always better at math than writing.)

If you didn’t know already…I have an addiction to the grocery store. I get beyond excited to grocery’s kind of scary. Well last night after work, my roomie and cousin Sara and I, went to Ralphs. We may have gone a little crazy….(-$180) Even better than grocery shopping…….knowing how many possibilities you have for breakfast and lunch!! I practically flew out of bed because I was so excited for breakfast. Since it’s pretty warm here in LA, I went with a parfait!

This baby started with plain Fage 0%, then I topped it with raspberries and Kashi Go Lean Crunch. Yum and yum! Parfaits are such a delicious healthy breakfast, I’m a fan. Not to mention the countless mixes you could make!

I would also like to share my new obsession with you….

This stuff is the!! No joke I could drink 15 bottles of this a day!

I’m currently working all day, and then I’ll be dancing tonight! Getting to dance so much makes my life that much better. No joke, I live for it.

Since that’s all I’ve got for you on the food front so far, I’ll leave you with some fun pics from the weekend!! Enjoy.

Me and my girl Lauren!!

My adorable parents at a dance event!

I ate The Fitnessista’s breakfast cookie dough cereal for the first time…..Wow oh wow!

My cousin and I at the LA film Festival. Her movie the Inkeepers was INCREDIBLE!! LOVED IT SO MUCH!!

My cousins pup! How cute is he??

Well that’s it for now!

If you have a blog, did you struggle to “make it your own”??

  1. That blog post was the! Lol and yes the fridge is packed! You forgot to mention our delicious turkey burger wraps last night! Heello! Amaze-balls.

You’re blog has inspired me to go to yoga tonight! Especially since Ceci will probably be here till 1 am! LOL

  2. I felt just like you did when starting up my blog, but I just let my own voice come through and post about what I want to, even if it doesn’t fall into the fitness or mommy genre.

A big yay for yogurt parfaits!

  3. I just started my blog recently and I totally understand where you’re coming from. It’s like who is my target audience, what do they want me to write about? And I definitely read so many blogs of people running marathons and making all these amazingly healthy recipes… and I’m not really there yet but I’m trying not to compare myself! Most of them have been blogging for wayyyyy longer and I’m sure I’ll figure things out as I go.

As long as blogging is making you happy then it doesn’t matter 🙂

  4. Oh girl I totally relate to you! Good for you for making it your own. I have also asked myself those same questions 🙂 And I think that sometimes these are good questions to ask so we can find out “blogger identity.”

I’m still workin’ on it but it’s good to know I’m not alone!

I think as long as you’re being you, I’ll read and so will other people! Keep going because you’re a talented writer!!

  5. LOVE this girl!! GO AGAINST the “healthy blogger” stereotype! the blog world can be sick and twisted sometimes, i am so glad you saw through that! YOU are YOU and that is what attracts people! excited about where your blog is going!

  6. oh my goodness! look at my blog! it is a complete mish mash of randomness! blog for you NOT anyone else! people will come if you are passionate about what you are writing about! Being fake is never successful!

    and your parents are adorable!!!

  7. hey girl! thanks for dropping a comment at my blog, i hope to see you there more often 🙂 you’re not a phony! i tried the healthy blogging thing too, but just like you i found it way too hard to eat and exercise, so i went the easy route.. cookies lol

  8. Girl congrats on wanting to be more of YOU!! That really is inspiring. I sometimes feel the pressure to be something I’m not and have blogged about it a few times. I’m just really trying to discover who I am the healthy way! I tend to get obsessed withother peoples lives and try to mimic them and end up falling flat on my face. We can truly only be ourselves girl, so rock it out!! :):)

  9. I’m stoked you commented on my blog so I could find yours! Holy cow I love it so much, I get so tired of reading the same ol healthy blogs all of time, way to spice it up!! Cannot wait to read more! 😀

  10. I felt the SAME way you did a little while back. My first few posts were things I wanted to write about, but at the same time I held back on letting out my weird and crazy personality and conformed to the “healthy” blogging style. Now I enjoy blogging about healthy eats and my workouts whenever they might be, but I also don’t hide my quirky, not easily embarrassed personality. This has made blogging so much more enjoyable! AND sets us aside from every other food blogger! Welcome back and I am even more excited than ever to follow your stories..and omgaahh I loveee your cousin!! That is craycrayyy cause I’ve seen her movies! She is whoa cute and so are you! YAY x 243958 for yogurt parfaits!

  11. That Pom stuff really does look like the! And that’s so great that you have decided to keep blogging and being you. I feel so liberated when I am honest with my self and embrace my true personality. I’m fruit obsessed, so fruit parfaits are a huge yay 🙂

  12. AHHH I feel the same! I’m more of a foodie than a “healthy living” blogger, haha. Is it pathetic that one of the main reasons I’m becoming a dietitian is because we get to cook so much in class?? Whatevuhhh I’ll take it! And ughh I miss Ralph’s manager’s special. I went to Pepperdine for undergrad then moved to NYC. So not the same.

  13. First time stopping by but I like what you have to say! You gotta do it for YOU, and it doesn’t matter if your blog doesn’t fit neatly into a little category or anything like that! I’ll definitely keep reading on! You really made me want to eat a parfait btw 😛

  14. Lenna (veganlenna)

Hi, I am really looking forward to reading you “new” blog, even though I loved the “old” one as well. I think with blogging, it is the same process as with finding your identity in the developement… You try something, you see it was a miss/hit, you continue/change and so on… until you finally find something that is “YOU”. Good luck with you blog goals, I hope to see a lot of posts devoted to your dancing and healthy eating and many yoghurt parfaits 🙂

  15. Hi!! Thanks for saying hi on my blog. I’m so glad you did!!!

You are so gorgeous by the way! That pom juice is so addicting. I love it too. and the yogurt parfait looks great! I have been eating a lot of them since it has started to get hot outside. Definitely a better choose of hot oats in the summer time!

  16. It’s your awesome personality that brings in readers so just do whatever you feel comfortable doing in your blog. It’s yours and yours alone 😉
    Yogurt parfait= big fat YAY!

  17. Good for you, girl! I’ve missed ya by the way! Be yourself, and I guarantee you’ll feel so much better blogging!! 🙂 And I love yogurt parfaits!!

  18. Popped in to say hi! I don’t have a healthy living blog, but I read a lot of them and it’s SOOOO nice to find a blog that’s not about running! I feel so much pressure when I read about all these girls running, doing body pump/ yoga and then just eating salads…I just want to dance and eat pie!

  19. I love this post! I feel the same way about blogging. When I first started I think I felt the need to emulate the blogs of I just post what I want to actually say. It’s YOUR blog so you can do whatever you want with it. 😀 And I totally enjoy reading blogs where you can tell the writer is genuinely sharing honest opinions & being original.
