Holiday Weekend + Sur

Hey there!!! Holiday weekends always make me feel a little wonky!! I mean…it’s already wednesday?!?! It’s almost the weekend…AGAIN!! Guess I can’t do too much complaining. Lets recap this holiday weekend!!

Saturday

I had to work sat night, but we went out for a fun dinner!! It is my moms birthday tomorrow, but we went out over the weekend since we had family in from out of town. Guess where we went…SUR!! If you haven’t heard of Sur, you might have heard of Lisa Vanderpump. She is one of the housewives of Beverly Hills. She owns this restaurant!!

I went with the Grilled Ahi Tuna and it came with two sides. I went with sauteed spinach and brussels sprouts!! Pretend I’m really good at photographing food, and this looks delish!! It actually was much more tasty then it looks!!!

Sunday/Monday


Sunday and Monday kind of blur together because we did the same thing!! I spend both days with the family lounging by my aunts pool!!! Let me tell you, it was super hot in the San Fernando Valley!! We were pretty much in the pool all day!!! There was also lots of cocktails consumed!!

Hello lovahs!!! How is your wednesday treating you?? Mine is bueno!! Lets start with a little rewind of the weekend.

Friday- Got my dance on…..what else would the hungry dancer be doing??? (Maybe dancing AND eating šŸ˜‰ )

Saturday- Work then ended up at a little bar with some dance friends…dare I say I had a couple jager bombs? Peer pressure my friends. (Just playin’!)

Sunday- I was involved in a dance showcase!! It was very last minute but I was happy to oblige!

Yesterday may have involved a fun meal at Saks Fifth Ave in beverly hills. They have an awesome cafe on the 5th floor that my mom and I are obsessed with. How can you not be obsessed when they bring you this as soon as you sit down…

For my lunch, I went with the veggie sandwich.

The New Hungry Dancer

Well hello there. Long time no see my friends. I think it’s only fair that I explain myself….

The truth of the matter is that when I started my blog I was beyond passionate about it and hopeful that I could reach people who struggled with the same things in life that I did, and still do. After a couple months of blogging, I started to really question if I should really be writing a “healthy living blog” I have no interest in waking up at 5 am to run 15 miles, I don’t eat oats that often (hehe), nor do I come up with tons of innovative recipes. What really makes me qualified to be writing a blog?? I guess there isn’t really an answer to that question. The only thing I can really tell you is that I am passionate about food, fitness, and fun. I think that reading so many other blogs about these people who run a marathon every month, or are doing triathlons kind of made me feel like a phony. I think this also led to my blog posts not really being, “Me.” I felt pressured to try and post new eats all the time, and if I didn’t work out one day I felt guilty, maybe didn’t post all the nights on the town…Well things are changing here at Hungry Dancer. I don’t want to give up blogging because I love it a lot. But I’m just gonna say screw it and write what I want, when I want. I’m 21, I love going out and having a good time with my friends, but I also like to eat as healthy as I can, dance my a$$ off, and maybe throw in some fun workout classes.

Well now that I’ve talked your ear off, lets move on!! I am feeling more inspired then ever, and I hope you’re with me. Some things will stay the same: My yummy food, lots of pictures, and my grammatical errors (sorry I was always better at math than writing.)

Breakfast

If you didn’t know already…I have an addiction to the grocery store. I get beyond excited to grocery shop..it’s kind of scary. Well last night after work, my roomie and cousin Sara and I, went to Ralphs. We may have gone a little crazy….(-$180) Even better than grocery shopping…….knowing how many possibilities you have for breakfast and lunch!! I practically flew out of bed because I was so excited for breakfast. Since it’s pretty warm here in LA, I went with a parfait!

This baby started with plain Fage 0%, then I topped it with raspberries and Kashi Go Lean Crunch. Yum and yum! Parfaits are such a delicious healthy breakfast, I’m a fan. Not to mention the countless mixes you could make!

I would also like to share my new obsession with you….

I’m currently working all day, and then I’ll be dancing tonight! Getting to dance so much makes my life that much better. No joke, I live for it.

Arthritis Walk 2011

Hey friends!! How are you??? This is going to be a quick post because I want to share something really important with you. A friend of our family is suffering from arthritis and it’s a cause that’s definitely worth supporting. There will be a walk for the cause tomorrow! I wont be able to be there because I am working, but I’m hoping that any of you who live in the LA area would participate!!!

Weekend Recap

Hey friends! Happy Monday! How was your weekend??? Mine was okay, nothing special. :-/

Friday I had a dance party that was themed mathletes vs athletes. Since I was a cheerleader in high school, I went the athlete route.

Ouchies

Hey besties!! Before I get started, I need to talk about a little boo boo that happened last night! Sometimes getting hurt is unavoidable.(or you’re just a klutz like me!) So last night me and the roomie/cousin went to yoga, then decided to take a dip in the hot tub after! Obviously after swimming I showered, and this is where things went downhill. Getting out of the shower, some how the bottom of the shower door cut my foot open! Thankfully the wound wasn’t that bad. There was just a lot of blood which really freaked me out!! Luckily we were able to make a makeshift bandage with paper towels and packing tape. I know we are just that cool.

I am one of those people who HAS to have dessert after dinner…well last night was no different.

Breakfast

I have to say I used to only really enjoy hot oats. I had a couple bad experiences with overnight oats, and they just didn’t tickle my fancy. It’s all changed, I am addicted and nothing with stop me from eating this for the next 3483094 mornings!

The night before I mixed:

  • 1/3 cup old fashioned oats
  • 2 Tbs oat bran
  • 1/3 cup plain 0% greek yogurt
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk
  • Chia seeds and stevia

This morning I just topped it with some more almond milk and White Chocolate Wonderful peanut butter. I am seriously obsessed. Dare I say I may like this more than hot oats??

The other day while shopping I came across something interesting….

I have to say, I really enjoyed it!! I’ve always been obsessed with chili so this is a good healthy alternative. I would have liked it a bit more spicy, but you can’t have it all!

Fiesta stuffed spaghetti squash. (recipe coming soon) This was one of the best creations I have ever made, to die!! Each half is about 300 calories, perfection!

I had a moment of craving and decided to try Baked pickles!! I guess this is my take on fried pickles! I have seen a lot of these on blogs before and decided to recreate them for me and the roomie!

The pomegranate fizz tab was SO GOOD! The flavor was a little vitaminy (is that even a word?) but I really enjoyed it. I don’t know that I was more energized, but it did suppress my appetite a bit, which it was supposed to do! I have also tried the chocolate energy chew which was really tasty. I can’t wait to try the rest of the products!

My first WIAW!

Hello my friends!! It’s humpity hump day!! I have been wanting to partake in the what I ate wednesday party for a while, but never got the chance to do it!! Well today is the day I do it, so lets get started!! (This is really more like what I ate tuesday because it’s only 10:29 AM over here!)

Breakfast

I started my morning off with a delicious omelet!! This was an egg white omelet stuffed with goat cheese and topped with guacamole. Doesn’t get much better than that!!

After breakfast I headed to the gym in my complex for a one mile run on the treadmill and then a 25 min elliptical sesh! I have been trying to incorporate more stretching into my everyday routine because I really need to keep my flexibility up for my dancing.

I tried the tomato basil Kay’s protein puffs!! These were AH-MAZ-ING!! I will definitely be ordering these when my stash of samples is up!!

More Kay’s!! I tried these cookie bites and was not really a fan. It tasted more like dry cereal than cookies. It was still good, but it wasn’t at all like cookies.

Dinner was a chicken, veggie, and rice bowl!! I made an amazing sauce by mixing soy sauce, apple cider vinegar, siracha hot sauce, and agave. It was amazing!!

My cousin cooked the chicken on the panini press, and I roasted the veggies and made the sauce, it was a match made in roommate heaven!

I’m not sure if you know this, but I HAVE to eat dessert every night, it’s not a question in the Hungry Dancer house!! I ate a chocolate vita-top smeared with White Chocolate Wonderful, I know you are drooling over this!!

I finished the night with some aloe vera H2O and some un pictured tea!

Goodbye April, Hello May.

Hello friends!!! Thank you SO MUCH for all the amazing comments on my dance competition!!! I worked really hard to get where I am in the dance world and it’s awesome to know you guys appreciate that!! Moving on…

Yesterday I ate one of the most delicious sandwiches I have ever had!! I went shopping with my friend Lauren, and after we were hungry so we went to this grill place in the mall! I went with the spicy chicken breast sandwich!

I got mine with a side of garden salad. That focaccia bread was baked fresh for every sandwich! It was definitely the best part!

This salad monster included: Butter lettuce, a mixture of tempeh and salsa, 100 cal pack guacamole (!!!), and fresh pico de gallo!! So good, so filling!! Tempeh and salsa is an amazing pair!

I also was beyond excited because I got a package from Kay’s Natural!!! They make amazing protein snacks and were kind enough to send me a bunch of samples to review on the blog!!

These are Chili Nacho Cheese Protein chips!! These were amazing!! The only thing I didn’t like was that for a small bag it had 1.5 servings. I wish it had been a one serving bag but it was still amazing. Each serving is 110 calories and has 10 grams of protein!! If this is any sign of how the snacks taste, I am going to LOVE all of it!! More reviews to come!!
